The Eastern Iowa Brass Band will close its 2010-2011 concert season on Saturday, April 30th, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. in the Mt. Vernon District Auditorium in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Conducting the concert will be Joshua Thompson, a Visiting Artist at Cornell College in the Department of Music, where he directs the Wind Ensemble. Josh is also a trumpet performer and Iowa City area teacher, as well as a candidate for a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Trumpet Performance and Pedagogy with an emphasis on Instrumental Conducting at the University of Iowa.
The concert will include pieces such as “Year of the Dragon” by Phillip Sparke, “Bring Him Home,” from Les Miserables with solo by Dennis Modracek on E-flat Cornet, and “American Celebration,” by William Himes, which features the middle school students of Roger DeYoung, Todd Bransky, and Joshua Thompson.
Tickets are available at the door: $10 adult, $4 student.
Once again, the Eastern Iowa Brass Band has invited the Cedar Rapids Concert Chorale to join us on our December subscription series concert. Under the direction of Fred Kiser, the CR Concert Chorale will perform highlights from Handel’s “Messiah” accompanied by members of the Eastern Iowa Brass Band.
The Cedar Rapids Concert Chorale is made up of homemakers, teachers, doctors, receptionists, radio personalities, city employees, secretaries, real estate brokers, executives and many other professionals. The Chorale, founded in 1959, also serves as the principal choral ensemble of the Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra. The Cedar Rapids Concert Chorale is an auditioned SATB chorus of up to 100 voices.
The performance is part of a fund-raising dinner/concert at the Rock Falls Middle School. Performing groups include: the Rock Falls Middle School band, High School Band, High School Choir, and concluding with the Eastern Iowa Brass Band. The Spaghetti Dinner and Concert is sponsored by the Rock Falls Middle School Music Boosters.
This will be the last performance before the EIBB competes in the US Open Brass Band Championships in St. Charles Illinois on November 6th.
Dinner is served between: 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM
Concert begins at 7:00 PM
Spaghetti dinner $5.00 per plate
Admission to the concert is $5.00 per person

The Eastern Iowa Brass Band will be joining in the festivities at this year’s Lisbon Sauerkraut Days. This 101 year town celebration includes rides, food, a parade, 5k run, vendors, a car show, tractor pull and lots of great entertainment for the whole family. We take the stage (or right below the stage) at 7:30 pm on Main Street, Friday August 13th. So come, bring a friend and enjoy this free concert that is guaranteed to entertain!
