The Eastern Iowa Brass Band is proud to announce the winners of their 2013 Young Artist Competition.
Jessen Smith has been selected as the high school division winner. Jessen is a 12th grade trumpet/flugelhorn player at Clear Creek Amana High School. His winning audition on Joaquin Rodrigo’s “Adagio from Conceierto De Aranjuez” will be featured in the bands subscription series concert on April 27th. Along with a featured solo performance with the band, Jessen will receive a $250 music scholarship from the EIBB.
Keith Hammer has been selected as the runner-up in the high school division. Keith is an 11th grade percussionist at Washington High School in Cedar Rapids. Keith auditioned on Ray Woodfield’s arrangement of “Helter-Skelter.”
Will Emrich has been selected as the collegiate division winner. Will is a freshman euphonium player attending the University of Iowa. His winning audition on James Curnow’s “Rhapsody for Euphonium” will be featured in the bands subscription series concert on April 27th. Along with his featured concert performance, Will will receive a $350 music scholarship from the EIBB.
Aaron Ottmar has been selected as the runner-up in the collegiate division. Aaron, a sophmore at the University of Norther Iowa, auditioned on Askell Masson’s “Konzertstuck.”
All of these young musicians demonstrated tremendous maturity and musicality in their audition performances. The dedication and preparation displayed by these musicians is to be commended. One of our judges noted, “Congratulations on getting such talented entrants for your contest!”
