Instrument: Those things at the back of the room. Oh yeah, percussion.
Secondary Instrument Steel drums. Okay, they are still percussion, but WAY cooler that most. I’m also a recovering woodwind.
When did you start playing? I’ve kind of been a percussionist-in-training since I started in 2008. I did have some experience playing mallet percussion in high school.
When did you begin playing in EIBB? 2008
Family: I met my husband Joe in the band, of all places! The EIBB played for our wedding (it was beautiful!) and we were so thrilled to have our band family share in our special day!
Hometown: I grew up in Albia, IA, went to college at Cornell in Mt. Vernon, and now Joe and I live in Cedar Rapids.
Occupation: Programmer at Grant Wood AEA in Cedar Rapids.
Education: I graduated from Albia High School in 2005 and then attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon. I graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor’s of Arts in mathematics and computer science
Hobbies besides EIBB: photography, SciFi on TV, redecorating Joe’s bachelor pad
Favorite type of brass music: I love big percussion pieces where we’re all running around to different instruments and it’s always cool when the music gives you goosebumps. Some favorites: Esprit de Corps, Hymn of the Highlands, Intrada Ein’ Feste Burg, You Raise Me Up
Favorite EIBB moment: My favorite moment probably has to be when we were in the middle of rehearsal and someone (Bob Driggs?) had a question. Casey walked over and said “Point” so Bob would show him where we were in the music. Without missing a beat, half the band stuck their arms in the air, pointing in random directions.
