“We always knew this day would come”

After a little more than three years at the helm of the Eastern Iowa Brass Band, Casey Thomas will conduct his final concert with the EIBB on Saturday, September 18th at 7:30pm.  Casey has accepted the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Music at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, AR.  He will begin his new teaching position on August 25th.  At OBU, Casey will teach in the low brass studio as well as teaching music theory and music appreciation classes.
Casey brought great enthusiasm, musicianship, dedication, and leadership to the band beginning with his very first rehearsal.  Immediately, band members noted his tremendous ear and attention to detail.  Casey’s creativity and effective rehearsal technique made for efficient two hour rehearsals each week.  Through his association with the University of Iowa, he was able to bring new musicians to the band and these new players brought masterful playing skill to the group.  Casey’s creativity extended to writing new arrangements for the band, programming exciting concerts, and incorporating small groups and ensembles into every performance.
It goes without saying that the Eastern Iowa Brass Band is truly grateful for Casey’s service and friendship and we greatly appreciate the time we have spent together.

“Til we meet again…”

I enjoyed the concert Saturday evening very much. I was lucky enough to be in Casey’s master class during the U of I adult band camp several years ago. He is a fine talent and I appreciated his comments during the concert.
