MOUNT VERNON – The Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group today announced that the 3rd Annual Mount Vernon Chocolate Stroll will take place Saturday, June 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The free music and chocolate event invites guests to stroll down Mount Vernon’s historic First Street where participating businesses and chocolate vendors, located inside participating businesses, will offer chocolate and chocolate products for sample and sale.
Music this year will begin at 10 a.m. at the First Street Community Center (221 First St. NE, Mount Vernon). Music highlights will include the Eastern Iowa Brass Band at 11 a.m.; and, at 2 p.m., the Eddie Piccard Jazz Quartet will perform at the Memorial Park Gazebo (311 First St. NW).
New this year is a Children’s Lawn Party that will take place from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Memorial Park (311 First St. NW, Mount Vernon). Scheduled to perform at the children’s event will be world-champion juggler Doug Sayers as well as Sparkles the Clown, and other chocolate-themed activities such as M&M Bingo and chocolate finger-painting.
Also new this year will be the Chocolate Stroll 5K Run/Walk beginning at 9 a.m. on the front lawn of the First Street Community Center. Participants are asked to download a registration form at www.visitmvl.com, or register on site from 7 to 8:45 a.m. on the day of the event. Cost for the Run/Walk is $20, $25 day of event.
“The Chocolate Stroll seems to get bigger and bigger each and every year,” said Chocolate Stroll Committee Chair Trude Elliott. “This year we’ve added strolling street performers, a Children’s Lawn Party and a Chocolate 5K Run/Walk – all of which have a chocolate theme. We are inviting everyone to come celebrate music and chocolate and small-town fun with us!”
Noted local and regional chocolate vendors scheduled to take part in the event include The Bakery, Cocoa Bellissimo, Big Creek Market, Chameleon’s, Kup Cakery, Divine Decadents, Fancy Fudje, Fuel, Kalona Chocolate, Mount Vernon Confections, The Perfect Blend, Tassel Ridge Winery, Wright Touch Bakery and many more.
Musicians scheduled to perform as part of the Chocolate Stroll include The Eddie Piccard Jazz Quartet, the Eastern Iowa Brass Band, the Iowa Goatsinger, Kodiak Flats, Lincoln Highway Band, the Mount Vernon 6th and 7th Grade Band, and more.
